Do estate planning documents need to be notarized?

• Many estate planning documents require notarization, including powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, certifications of trust, affidavits, trust amendments, and certain trust-related documents. Your attorney or document preparer should confirm which documents require notarization before your appointment.

Can you notarize a trust, power of attorney, or advance healthcare directive?

• Yes. I provide mobile notarization for attorney-prepared estate planning documents, including revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, certifications of trust, trust amendments, and related estate planning documents throughout San Mateo County and Santa Clara County.

Do you notarize wills?

• Under California law, wills require two witnesses, not notarization. However, if your will includes a self-proving affidavit, I can notarize that portion upon request — check with your attorney or document preparer to see if this applies to your documents.

Can you come to our home for an estate planning signing?

• Yes. I travel to homes, offices, hospitals, senior living communities, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, and care facilities throughout San Mateo County and Santa Clara County for estate planning notarizations.

Do you provide witnesses for estate planning documents?

• Witness coordination may be available for estate planning appointments when arranged in advance. Optional witness coordination is $50 per witness. Please confirm witness requirements with your attorney or document preparer before scheduling your appointment.

What does each signer need for the appointment?

• Each signer must present an acceptable form of identification permitted under California law and must be willing and able to sign the documents. Estate planning documents should be complete and ready for notarization before the appointment begins.

Can you tell me whether I need an acknowledgment or jurat?

• No. As a California Notary Public, I cannot determine which notarial act is required or provide legal advice. If your document does not contain notarial wording, please contact your attorney, document preparer, or the receiving agency to determine whether an acknowledgment, jurat, or another notarial certificate is required.

How much does an estate planning notary appointment cost?

• Estate planning signing packages start at $175 for an individual estate plan and $225 for a couple's estate plan. Optional witness coordination is $50 per witness. California notarial fees are regulated by California Government Code § 8211 and are currently $15 per notarized signature.

Do you notarize living trusts?

• Yes. I provide mobile notarization for revocable living trusts, trust amendments, and certifications of trust throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara County.

Can a notary notarize a power of attorney?

• Yes. I provide mobile notarization for powers of attorney — including durable, financial, and medical powers of attorney — as part of estate planning appointments or on their own.
