California Apostille for Vietnam

Nationwide & International Clients Welcome • WhatsApp Available
Vietnam
Vietnam is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, in force since September 11, 2026. That means a single apostille from the California Secretary of State is all you need. Documents sent from California to Vietnam do not require additional embassy or consular legalization.
How the California Apostille Process Works
1. Send your document for review
Upload a clear photo or scan through my quote form. I’ll check whether it’s ready for apostille or needs a certified copy or notarization first.
2. Prepare the correct document
Birth, marriage, and death certificates must come from an eligible California issuing agency. Court records need court certification. Privately signed documents may need notarization.
3. Choose your processing speed
Standard service is 5–7 business days; expedited service is 1–2 business days, subject to availability. Timing begins when I receive an eligible document ready for submission and excludes shipping.
4. I coordinate submission
I submit your eligible document to the California Secretary of State for apostille processing.
5. Receive your documents
I arrange tracked domestic or international return shipping. Local pickup or delivery may also be available.
Documents Commonly Apostilled for Use in Vietnam
An eligible U.S. public document intended for use there can follow the apostille process. The authority that issues the apostille depends on who issued or notarized the document: California handles eligible California documents, another state handles documents under its authority, and the U.S. Department of State handles eligible federal documents.
I review California documents for apostille readiness and coordinate submission to the California Secretary of State. I can also discuss the processing path for an eligible federal document. If your document was issued or notarized in another state, its apostille must come from the appropriate authority in that state.
Depending on the receiving authority’s requirements, these may include:
-
Diplomas and Transcripts
-
Notarized Declarations and Authorizations
-
FBI background checks, which follow the federal apostille process
The apostille must come from the authority responsible for the document. Eligible California documents go through the California Secretary of State; federal documents go through the U.S. Department of State.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need embassy legalization for Vietnam?
No. For eligible California documents used in Vietnam, an apostille replaces embassy or consular legalization. Confirm any separate document requirements with the receiving authority.
Can you help if my document was issued in Vietnam?
I handle California apostilles. If your Vietnam-issued document needs an apostille for U.S. use, contact the competent authority in Vietnam.
How do I get an apostille in California? What are the steps?
The process has three main stages. First, confirm your document is eligible: it must be an original certified record from a California county or a document signed before a commissioned California notary public. Second, submit the document to the California Secretary of State, either by mailing it to the Sacramento office or presenting it in person in Sacramento or Los Angeles. Third, the Secretary of State attaches the apostille certificate and returns your document. If you work with Tifini, she handles stages two and three for you: reviewing your document for eligibility before submission, traveling to the Sacramento Secretary of State office, and shipping the completed apostille back to you domestically or internationally.
How much does a California apostille cost?
My California apostille service fee is $185 for the first document with standard processing (5–7 business days) or $245 for the first document with expedited processing (1–2 business days). Each additional document of the same type in the same order is $75. California Secretary of State fees are separate: $20 per apostille, plus $6 for each different public official’s signature authenticated for in-person submissions. Return shipping is billed at cost. Notarization, record retrieval, and translations are additional when needed.
What documents can be apostilled in California?
The California Secretary of State can apostille documents that carry an eligible California public official's signature. Common examples include birth, marriage, death, and divorce certificates issued by a California county; court-certified orders and judgments; notarized documents signed before a California notary; corporate documents such as certificates of good standing; and power of attorney documents. The Secretary of State cannot apostille documents issued by another state or a federal agency. Those require a separate process through the appropriate state's authority or the U.S. Department of State. If you are unsure whether your document qualifies, call or text Tifini at (650) 675-7760.
