About five years ago, my mom was in the ICU in Hilo, Hawaii, following complications from shoulder surgery. My sister and I flew in immediately to help care for her—and one of the first things we had to do was get a Power of Attorney and have it notarized.
That was the first time I had ever interacted with a notary.

At the time, I had spent over 30 years in property management—20 of those years with the same company.
